סטארמר מעניש את ישראל ועיוור לפתרון שמעבר לגדר

 בימים האחרונים הלכה והחריפה מגמת הפניית האצבע לישראל - הקורבן, במקום לחמאס - התוקפן. החלטתו של קיר סטארמר, ראש הממשלה הבריטי, להשהות את שידרוג הסכמי הסחר עם ישראל בעיצומה של מערכה הכרחית נגד חמאס – ארגון טרור רצחני שאחראי לפיגוע הקשה ביותר בתולדות המדינה – מבטאת עיוורון מוסרי מדאיג. קיר סטארמר רואה קיסם בעיני ישראל, אך עיוור לקורה שבין עיניו.

תחת דגל ההומניטריות, סטארמר כמנהיגים אירופים נוספים מעניש את ישראל, שחרף מורכבות הלחימה עושה כל שניתן לצמצם את הפגיעה באזרחים. 

דרישות להכנסת שיירות של משאיות, שמזינות בפועל את צבא הטרור של חמאס, מקשות על צה"ל לטהר את הרצועה ממחבליה ומשלטון חמאס ועקב כך מאריכות את המלחמה ומנגד, קריאות להיכנע לחמאס ולהשאירו ברצועה, הם פתרונות גרועים. נחוצה חשיבה מחוץ לקופסה – או ליתר דיוק, מחוץ לרצועה.

הפתרון האמיתי נמצא כמה קילומטרים מערבה – ברפיח שבצד המצרי של הגבול. אם העולם באמת מעוניין לסייע לאזרחי עזה, עליו לפעול בדחיפות להקמת מקלט הומניטרי מסודר, מפוקח ובינלאומי, בשטח מצרים. מקלט כזה יעניק לעזתים מחסה בטוח, תשתיות, רפואה וחינוך, ובעיקר – יחלץ אותם מהשימוש הציני שעושה בהם חמאס כמגן אנושי. בכך תתאפשר גם פעולה צבאית מהירה ויעילה לחיסול מוחלט של כוחות חמאס ופקידיו, ללא מגבלות מוסריות שישראל מחמירה בהן, לעיתים עד כדי שיתוק.

אך הקמת המקלט היא רק צעד ראשון. רצועת עזה הפכה בשנים האחרונות למבוך תת-קרקעי מסועף של מנהרות טרור, החודרות מתחת לערים, שכונות ובתי ספר. מדובר בתשתית טרור שמסכנת לא רק את ישראל, אלא גם את תושבי עזה עצמם. הדרך היחידה לשיקום אמיתי ולביטחון בר־קיימא היא הפיכת פני הקרקע – תרתי משמע: חשיפת כל המנהרות, חיסולן, ובניית תשתית אזרחית מודרנית ובטוחה במקומן.

מבחינה מדינית, המהלך אפשרי ומוצדק מוסרית. מצרים – שיזמה את מלחמת 1948 והייתה שותפה ישירה להיווצרות מחנות הפליטים ברצועה ושימורם למעלה משבעים שנה – יכולה כעת להפגין מנהיגות אזורית ולשקול את השכרת השטח הדרוש למהלך. המקלט יהיה סגור, הכניסה אליו תבוקר ביטחונית וכוח בינלאומי - אולי הרחבה של הכוח המוצב בסיני (MFO) - יוכל לחצוץ בין המקלט לבין שאר שטח מצרים. בכך תימנע חדירת גורמי טרור ואמל"ח, ומצרים תוכל ליהנות מהטבות כלכליות וממעמד מדיני משופר. ייתכן שאף ייפתח פתח להסדר כולל יותר שלה עם אתיופיה בעניין מקורות המים.

אם מנהיגי המערב חפצים בטובת תושבי עזה ואזרחי ישראל – ואין סיבה להטיל בכך ספק – עליהם להפנות את מרצם לקידום הפתרון הזה, במקום להעניש את ישראל על מאמציה להגן על עצמה. כל עוד חמאס שולט ברצועה, לא ייתכן שיקום אמיתי. כל עוד המערב מזרים סיוע לרצועה במקום להוציא את האזרחים ממנה – הוא מאריך את הסבל במקום לקצרו.

זה הזמן לחדול מהאשמות שגויות, מהצגות תכלית מוסריות חלולות ומהפעלת סנקציות על מי שנלחם בטרור במצפון מוסרי חסר תקדים. זה הזמן להתחיל לפעול – הפתרון לעזה לא עובר דרך ענישת ישראל, אלא דרך שחרור האוכלוסייה הפלסטינית מהשלטון של חמאס כדי שישראל תוכל למגר את הארגון לטובת אזרחיה ואזרחי הרצועה כאחד.

הפתרון, פשוטו כמשמעו – נמצא מעבר לגדר.

Starmer Punishes Israel and Is Blind to the Solution Beyond the Fence

In recent days, a troubling trend has intensified: blaming Israel—the victim—instead of Hamas—the aggressor. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to suspend the upgrade of trade agreements with Israel, right in the midst of a necessary military campaign against Hamas—a murderous terrorist organization responsible for the deadliest attack in Israel’s history—reflects a deeply concerning moral blindness. Starmer sees the speck in Israel’s eye but is blind to the beam in his own.

Under the banner of humanitarianism, Starmer, like other European leaders, is punishing Israel—despite the IDF’s continued efforts to minimize civilian harm in an exceptionally complex battlefield. Demands to bring truck convoys into Gaza, which effectively resupply Hamas’s terrorist army, are hindering the IDF’s ability to cleanse the territory of terrorists and dismantle Hamas’s rule. These actions prolong the war. On the other hand, calls to capitulate to Hamas and leave it in control of Gaza are even worse alternatives. What is needed is genuine out-of-the-box thinking—or more precisely, thinking beyond Gaza.

The real solution lies just a few kilometers west—in the Egyptian side of Rafah. If the international community truly wishes to assist the civilians of Gaza, it must act urgently to establish a secure, internationally monitored humanitarian shelter in Egyptian territory. Such a facility would provide Gazans with safety, infrastructure, medical care, and education—most importantly, it would rescue them from Hamas’s cynical use of them as human shields. This would also enable a swift and decisive military campaign to eliminate Hamas forces and officials without the moral constraints that Israel—rightfully but restrictively—places on itself.

However, the establishment of this shelter is only the first step. In recent years, Gaza has transformed into a sprawling underground maze of terror tunnels that extend beneath cities, neighborhoods, and schools. This infrastructure poses a threat not only to Israel but to Gazans themselves. The only path to genuine reconstruction and sustainable security is a literal and figurative transformation of the terrain: the full exposure and elimination of the tunnels, and the building of a modern and secure civilian infrastructure in their place.

From a political standpoint, the plan is feasible and morally justified. Egypt—which initiated the 1948 war and played a direct role in the creation and preservation of Gaza’s refugee camps for over seventy years—now has the opportunity to demonstrate regional leadership by leasing the necessary land. The shelter would be closed and security-controlled, and an international force—perhaps an expansion of the existing Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Sinai—could separate it from the rest of Egypt, preventing the infiltration of terrorists and weapons. Egypt, in turn, could benefit from economic aid and an enhanced diplomatic standing—possibly even paving the way for a broader resolution regarding its water disputes with Ethiopia.

If Western leaders truly care about the wellbeing of Gazans and Israelis—and there is no reason to doubt their intentions—they must redirect their efforts toward advancing this solution, rather than punishing Israel for its attempts at self-defense. As long as Hamas controls Gaza, true reconstruction is impossible. And as long as the West pours aid into the Strip instead of helping remove civilians from it, it is prolonging suffering rather than alleviating it.

This is the time to stop casting false accusations, stop empty moral posturing, and stop sanctioning those who are fighting terrorism with unprecedented moral restraint. It is time to act. The path to solving the crisis in Gaza does not lie in punishing Israel—it lies in liberating the Palestinian population from Hamas’s grip so that Israel can defeat it, for the benefit of both its own citizens and those of Gaza.

The solution—quite literally—lies beyond the fence.
